# AML scopes

> Anti money laundering screening: adverse media, PEPs, and sanctions.

AML scopes screen a person or entity against risk data: negative news, politically exposed person lists, and sanctions lists.

<Note>
  The inputs and result fields for AML scopes depend on the provider configured for your organization. Confirm the exact request shape for your setup in the dashboard, or with support, before integrating. The general shape is described below.
</Note>

## Adverse media

`adverse_media` screens a name against negative news and media sources.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.pruva.africa/v1/adverse_media \
  -X POST \
  -H "X-Pruva-Key: pruva_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "name": "Ada Okafor" }'
```

The result carries any adverse media matches found for the subject.

## PEPs and sanctions

`peps_sanctions` screens a name against politically exposed person lists and sanctions lists.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.pruva.africa/v1/peps_sanctions \
  -X POST \
  -H "X-Pruva-Key: pruva_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "name": "Ada Okafor" }'
```

The result carries any PEP or sanctions matches found for the subject.

## Reading AML results

Screening scopes answer "did we find anything," so treat a clear result and a match result both as successful checks. A match is not an error; it is the screen doing its job. Review the matches returned and apply your own risk policy.

<Note>
  As with every scope, a completed screen is charged whether or not it returns matches, and a `failed` check is not. See [Wallet and billing](/concepts/billing).
